Looking at the power supply site you posted I would highly recommend a quality power supply.
Brands I recommend and use are Corsair and Seasonic.

UPDATE : Motherboard is now pretty much fried - white smoke came from the PCI-E slot and doesnt even power on now with either PSU - time for a new computer

Sounds like it's time.
Please remember that a faulty power supply probably caused the motherboard problems.
When a power supply goes bad it can take the complete computer with it.
That is why I keep preaching quality power supply.
They cost more and their worth it.
