5gb of Ram on Dell Dimension E521, HOW?

It says in the Manuel for this computer (Dell Dimension E521) that it can only go up to 4gb of ram but i had 5gb of ram in it and it showed on it in computer property's, so is this safe? it ran like this for a very long time does anyone know about this?
I want to do the same thing to my Dell Optiplex 380 and 320 is this still safe and possible?
any help would be much appreciated TY

Can you take a screen shot of your Computer properties?

Click start > Right-click Computer > Click properties

Use the Snipping tool to take a screen shot and then post it here

Oops, I guess I didn't read the second sentence...

The problem was probably that your old Dimension was a 32bit computer whereas the optiplex supports 64bits. This means that while your computer can see more than 4gb of ram, only 4 will be usable. Whereas a 64bit computer has a much, much larger limit.. Something like 16 terabytes.

In a nutshell, your optiplex will be perfectly fine with more than 4gb of ram.

Dell Dimension 4300
Picked up a Dell Dimension 4300 at a garage sale for $10. It has a pentium 4 2.66 ghz and 512 of DDR PC266 RAM. The OS is Windows XP Home. I'm going to increase the RAM to 1 Gig, maybe 2. Not sure if the computer will support 2 gigs of RAM. I'll probably also be adding a DVD drive and a newer...

Dell E521 Bios Update Question with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
I replaced the hard drive in my Dell Dimension E521, with a new 320GB (non Dell Specific) WD unit, and loaded Windows 7 Pro (again, non Dell specific version). The old hard drive was bad. I downloaded the 1.1.11 BIOS update (http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDeta...) to a...

Dell Dimension 3000
Does anyone know much about the Dell Dimension 3000? I have run into a problem for about a month now of it restarting itself no matter what OS it is running. It is obviously a hardware problem and not a Windows problem so please don't try to troubleshoot it. Any help will be appreciated. :D Ben

Office 2007 and a Dell Dimension E521
Okay, so my friend's computer was on the fritz and I had to re-install Vista for her. The thing is, Office 2007 came with it but I can't find any discs. It can't be a trial version because she's had it for years. I'm guessing she lost the OEM disc. Either that or she never got one in the first...
