Windows 7: Mouse problem - Roccat Kone

Mouse problem - Roccat Kone

Hey there =)

to jump right in:
i got myself a whole new system (win7 x64) with all new peripherals, including a Roccat Kone. Now, after first installing Windows and afterwards the drivers for the mouse as well, it was working flawless (with both kind of drivers - windows+roccat ones).
after i changed the LED colors of the mouse, it failed to move. buttons would work, mouse wheel is fully funtional - only the cursor won't move.
by now, i figured out, that this is due to the surface on which the mouse lies.
on my mousepad (multi-colored) - nothing.
on my desk (wodden, brownish tones) - only very flickery.
on the black-colored ("shiny") user manual - working.
on the black-colored ("not shiny") backside of my mousepad - again nothing.

i did try to calibrate, turned calibration on/off, un- and reinstalled the drivers, tried with only windows standard drivers.. everything possible, really.

i can't really believe that something broke down hardware-like. as i said, i have been using the mouse normally, untill i simply switched the colors (config-wise). the mouse did not fell down, didn't bump into anything or vice versa, no liquids involved or whatsoever....

so.. this might not be totally related to win7, but maybe someone could still shed some light into this.
currently i'm rather desperate, since i only got a spare laptop mouse, which leaves me with approx. 5cm of space to move the mouse around, since its cable is too short.

every help is appreciate and my apologies, if this is too off-topic.

This is a first, had not seen anyone with this problem before. Did you remove both the Roccat and MS mouse drivers, if not try that then install only the Roccat drivers. Wish I could be of more help.

Also, BTW, Welcome To The Seven Forums, and thank you for filling in your system specs.

Win7 x64

thanks, lee =)

i haven't tried to uninstall the ms drivers, yet. gonna try that when i'm at home.

still, i'm rather thinking about some issues with the mouse' internal memory.
does anybody happen to know some way to reset it?

Check in the "Tutorials Section" of the forum, there just might be something in there.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I agree with Lee. I have this mouse and, whilst I love it to bits, i have to say it is temperamental.
I've been running W7 since the BETA and then the RC, then various leaked builds.
Each time I did a clean install or an upgrade install the mouse died on me and I had to drag out an old MS mouse to get through the first part of the install and download some Roccat drivers direct from their site.
They would seem to install but not and then install if I unplugged the mouse USB and then plugged it back in again.
This would produce a "new device..installing drivers" box.
I had downloaded drivers from Roccat on the pc. No good.
I tried putting the Roccat drivers on a USB stick and they wouldn't install.
It seems they have to be freshly downloaded each time and the the unplugging/replugging of the mouse needs doing before the Kone would spring to life.

So I don't think it's anything to do with your colour configuration.
I'd get rid of all the drivers, plug in the mouse plus another mouse if you have one and download fresh drivers from Roccat. Then unplug the Kone and plug it back in again.
I had to go through this rigmarole the other day after a system restore.

I don't know whether this is Kone's problem or W7 compatibility.

Either way, despite the hassle I think the mouse is a great gaming mouse and great generally so worth it.
Hope this helps. Let us know. John

Win7 x64

hey there and thanks for your replies. =)

i was contacted by roccat's customer support this morning. they're moving office at the moment, so i haven't really expected to hear from them that soon already.

however, according to their tech guy, it's a hardware issue and i was asked to ship the mouse back in and claim my warranty.

well, boo...
hopefully the replacement is going to work..
reading about your problems with the mouse and also picking up numerous complaints on other sites, i'm starting to get the feeling that this is rather a product in beta stage than a "final release".

let's see how long it's gonna take them to ship the new one.
must - play... - some....... - games.....hnjaaargh ;P

Hi jan.

Yes you may be right about it being a beta product. I prefer to think of it as an experimental attempt to break into the market.
Roccat have several other products which get widely varied reviews and I get the impression they are a very new company.
Hope you get your replacement quickly.
Once it's running the mouse is a joy to use and has great build quality so I'm putting up with it's foibles.

Best wishes, John
