    HD write protected


    Hi i have a hd which wont alow me to change write protection evan in dos i tryed but it sead drive now readable but when i try to format it in windows disk manager it says disk is write protected can anyone help me thanks

    Hello rscadden!

    This is unpleasant. I hope the following would help you.

    1. Type cmd in the Start Menu
    2. Select Run as Administrator
    3. You should now see the Command Line Utility
    4. Type in DISKPART and hit Enter ( here the values associated with your USB drive could be changed)
    5. Type LIST DISK and hit Enter
    6. Type SELECT DISK and the number of your drive which is write protected and hit Enter
    7. Type in ATTRIBUTES DISK and Diskpart gives the information you need about your drive
    If the first line is written as Current Read-only State: Yes, then the drive is write protected.
    8. To remove the write protection with Diskpart, type the command ATTRIBUTES DISK CLEAR READONLY. If it works, it should be confirmed by the line Disk attributes cleared successfully.
