USB drive takes forever to mount

    Hi Folks,

No matter which windows 7 system i'm plugging it into, my USB drive takes forever to mount. Windows keeps reading it for a long time before it finally does manage to mount it. Any idea what might be happening?

    thanks in advance...

On the face of it, one would suspect some corruption in your flash drive. It could also be an end of life syndrome.

When you are able to mount it, immediately copy all data on it to another location.

Then format it using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool v2.2.3 HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Download - Softpedia ( You have to run it as an administrator.)

Once formatted, copy a good amount of data into it and check its performance.

If it still fumbles and tumbles, time to discard.

    Hello luckycharms!

@Jumanji's right and also it could be that your drive is for replacing. Last resort is to change the cable you're using, the drive may not be getting enough power to fully load or load fast enough.
Also, it could be that some data from the drive is probably corrupted and that's making the device malfunction so jumanji's advice for reformatting is your best shot.

    Good luck! :)
