    hard drive


    hi guys , i have a question to ask if i may. i have found a laptop hard drive and the pins are different from all the others i have so i am looking into getting an adapter all the adapters i am looking for are 44 pin to sata which is close enough but when i count the pins i only have 43, i gather the other 4 separate is for the power but i know one isn't snapped off so do i go for the 44 one..many thanks for your time...TG

    In old IDE hard disks there were often only 43 pins because the 44th pin was used as a key so you couldn't plug the thing in backwards. I suspect that your 44 pin adapter will work just fine on your 43 pin drive.

    Since it's a Notebook/Laptop drive there are 4 separate pins for use in selecting the drive function such as Cable Select, Master or Slave. Those pins are not normally used in Notebooks as usually the default is Cable Select. Finding the jumper for them is more difficult as they are quite small. And the jumper is not needed unless mounting in a case that can accept two such as using the adapters for 2.5" to 3.5" in a Desktop case. There were a few 17" Notebooks made that could accept 2 such drives.
