LCD Black out?

Hi,

My Sony Vaio desktop's monitor screen when turned on is dark and has to be forced shut down a few times before it appears.

What could be the possible cause..........CCFL backlight failure or inverter issues?

Hoping to hear from you,

Thanks.

Sony Vaio VGC-LS1 running W7 Pro.

Are you cycling power on the monitor or rebooting the OS? Have you tried another monitor and cable? This at least would isolate hardware from OS issues.

Try turning the monitor brightness and contrast all the way up and report back.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

What exactly do you imply by " Are you cycling power on the monitor"?

Did a clean install of W7 a few weeks back.

He means, are you turning the monitor on and off using it's own power switch (and this problem happens regardless of what is on the display)?

Or are you turning the computer on and off (and the problem happens when Windows starts up regardless of whether the monitor has been left on or turned off)?

Thanks for your replies and expert suggestions.

Sent my Vaio VGC-LS1 for a tech check........the LCD has all hardware built in the back.....the tech called and replied there were some loose connectors due to prolonged usage which he fixed and did a service for dust/carbon etc.

Cathode tube bulb and invertor are both fine.

All is well and great now.

Charged 20 bucks, not bad?

Better than "not bad", I'd call that pretty good!

Apologize to restart but I see a few muddy/dirty blotches on the screen, specially on a white background.......

Care to suggest what could be the reason?

Thanks.

I doubt for that $20 he charged you that he was inside and left fingerprints or soil during that "dust/carbon" service you mentioned so (assuming you cleaned the exterior) I'd lean towards unit going bad. How old is it? Does it move or change while lightly pressing the screen on a white background? (Pull up a blank notepad page).

Thanks, he admits that the reason is accidental imprints on the so called sheets. So I asked him to clean them to which he replied if I clean those more might appear.......bear them or get Original 19" sheets that hold the tubes.

Apart from those spots the unit is working perfect.

Any thoughts?

And yes they disappear for a few seconds when I press and than reappear.
