The printer shows in Devices and Printers but not in "programs"? What is meant by programs, no files in C:\Program Files? That usually means the software that came with the printer is not fully installed. Also to check in Device and Printers is whether that printer is set as Default then each program you've tried to print from has to show that in File, Print, Print Setup, etc. I've seen a number of times something else like Fax or XPS set as Default and nothing seems to happen.

    printer not in c:/programs

Berton, Thats correct nothing shows up in c:/programs. Howerver, I uninstalled the drivers again an reinstalled. The printer is now working but it still doesn"t show up in c:/programs which I don"t understand. I have this same printer installed in 3 other laptops and it shows up in c:/ programs.
    Thanks for your help

The only thing I can say is that none of the printers I've installed showed up in C:\Program Files or the Start, All Programs list until the accompanying software was installed, drivers-only didn't. Installing drivers only should show the device/s in Control Panel, Devices and Printers or Start, Devices and Printers.

A Default installation of Win7 does not create a Folder named C:/Programs and the use of the / slash/forward slash is not correct for file management for path statements, only the \ backslash. In addition to the Program Files folder the 64-bit version of Windows has a Program Files (x86) for installation of 32-bit programs while the Program Files is for 64-bit programs. There also is a ProgramData Folder.
