Can't copy files from one hard drive to another in windows 7

Hi all and Happy New Year. :)

I just bought a new hard drive (Toshiba 2TB) and I want to transfer all the files from my 2 old Toshiba's 1TB each to the new 2TB one. What is the best way? I have tried to copy the files one by one but is really frustrating, i mean i don't mind wait them to copy because I work meanwhile etc.. but the thing is that some of them even won't START copying. I go to one of the disks hit COPY (as usual) to the folder then go to the appropriate folder and then hit PASTE, and then…nothing…nada…zitch. No copying, no errors, or some sort of message…nothing, just wont copy. And the strange thing is that is only from some folders, for others it copies just normal.

For some folders though says name is too long and I have to go and rename each file is just huge pain in the %#S.

Anyone knows how to fix that. I would be much appreciated I have very valuable data I worked very hard for over 10 years.

    Thank you in advance

I use the software and know what it does. If you cannot do what you want, read instructions again. It will work.

The intended purpose of that software is to back up your documents. Be sure to back up everything, even if you are not doing so now.
5 Hours, you must have a lot to copy. LOL. I agree you could not do it one by one.

I personally use "Free File Sync". Much faster then MS copy. Be careful installing comes with PUPs.

Would it not be easier to use the tutorial to have 'copy to / move to' in the context menu ? I have moved directories with up to 60g video file between drives in this manner. Even to external USB drives (now that takes a bit of time) but it always works. Art.
