Do you think I can use an ATX power supply for Apple motherboards?
Hi
So ATX power supplies are so familiar to all of us, we can power all our PC motherboards with it...
But I was thinking... do you think it's possible to use these power supplies to power up an Apple Mac motherboard?
They can't be so different... They need the same amount of power don't they? (Try to google for some photos)
Of course there are two types. Some of them like the Mac Mini motherboard is run by an external power adapter, much like notebooks. They are out of the question. I'm sure we can't do that.
But if you focus on a regular desktop Apple motherboard (like the PowerMac, Mac Pro, or even the iMac), they all have a power supply built inside. Of course that must be a specific power supply, for example, see the one for the iMac, it's so thin.
But do you think I could power one on if I have only a motherboard (and a CPU with heatsink+fan) and nothing else?
I searched for images but I don't see a standard ATX socket on them. But they must be powered somehow. I'm not scared of some modding in case this thing is possible. :)
Just for curiosity :)
