    Black screen on reboot problem

I see where people do a normal shut down or they left their computer in sleep and it died and when they try to reboot they get a black screen. It seems like the first thing they want to do is an Emergency bios flash.
I can't see how the bios could get corrupted from shutdowns or dead batteries. Every instance of thid I have run into has been bad M/B, voltage regulator IC, video card, etc. Has anyone seen where this has happened and it was definitely a corrupted bios?

While it is possible that a corrupted BIOS could cause this, the absolute LAST thing I would try is a BIOS flash.

Most likely these folks are confusing a BIOS reset (restoring the optimized default settings) with a BIOS flash (changing the BIOS current version to another version). There is very little possibility that the current version of a BIOS, previously working, would need to be replaced. It would just need to be reset.

And true BIOS corruption (unreadable data) is extremely rare. Once again I believe most folks are talking about bad or incorrect BIOS settings. People who overclock their PCs deal with this regularly and think little of it. They just reset and try again.
