Can't boot from SSD after being cloned

    Hello!

I have an XMG A504 laptop with 60GB Kingston V300 SSD, which unfortunately I found kinda lacking the necessary volume. So I've recently bought a Samsung 850 EVO with 120GB and I'd like to clone the disks. I have already tried to clone them once using Paragon Hard Drive Manager utility(with default settings) - I have plugged them into my desktop PC. When I've tried to boot the laptop I got an error saying device can't be found and winload.exe is missing. I assume this has to do with cloning a disk using another computer, but is there an easy way to fix it? I have tried Acronis TrueImage 2014 aswell and Macrium Reflect, but it still doesn't work.

    Thanks for your help!

Have you tried imaging rather than cloning?

No, I'll try it out. With imaging you mean backing the entire Kingston disk to a hard drive in my desktop PC and then restoring that backup to the new SSD?

Yeah. I don't know what partitions you have on the Kingston, but you'd need to include C and any other partition that was marked as "system" in Windows Disk Management. That could be C alone, C plus System Reserved, or something else--depending on how that drive is set up. You could make a single image file of all necessary partitions or make one image file for each of the necessary partitions.

Only reason I ask is that imaging is sometimes more trouble free. If one fails, try the other.

I recently upgraded my boot SSD (OS and my recording studio software installed). I did a Clone using Macrium Reflect Pro (paid version) and the new/cloned disc acted almost like a new install, and never quite finished. I did an image of the old SSD and then restored to the new SSD and all was OK.

Allright so I've tried to image the disk as well, no success, actually, it was even worse (didn't even give me a blue screen with error code). I have checked the partitions on my laptop now and I see that the system partition reserved partition is on the hard drive. Does that have to do anything with the problem?

Did you change the boot sequence in the BIOS to boot from the SSD.

Not specifically in the BIOS no, but I did chose to boot from the SSD in the startup options in the beginning.

Did you include that System Reserved from the hard drive in your image file, so that it would be part of the restoration?
