Windows 7: 9 cell Battery is not being "detected"

9 cell Battery is not being "detected"

I have a Dell Vostro 3650 running Windows 8.1 The battery was giving me about 30 minutes battery life so I bought a new, 9 cell, OEM battery. The "Problem" with the 9 cell battery is that it seems that Windows 8 is not really detecting the battery? I'm not sure. It will only tell me "unknown time remaining". It will not give me a notification of when the battery is going to die (Except the physical red button lighting on the front of the computer). In terms of battery life, the battery works fine. I get hours and hours of battery life so I know the battery is functioning properly. In the BIOS, it is detected as battery performing regularly. I don't know why it is not showing the time. I tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI drivers in device manager and rebooting but nothing changed. I was a able to SHORTLY borrow a similar laptop to mine, but running windows 7. The time remaining was being detected. My Bios version is on the latest version. Why is this happening?

2. Turn on the laptop. Allow it to run on battery power until the battery is drained to 40 percent of capacity. Hover your mouse over the battery icon in the lower right corner of your toolbar. This will display how much life the battery still possesses. How can I do this? I won't be able to tell when the battery is 40%

This is a very common method that works for a lot of folks:
How to Calibrate Your Laptop

Ignore that the article is about re-calibrating a current battery. It will work just as well with a new one.

This articles talks about incorrect readings.. for example, battery saying you have 20% left and laptop suddenly dying.

This is not the problem with mine. Mine does not provide ANY reading on Windows 8, but does on Windows 7.

None the less, I will try it and report back .

I am not familiar with how Windows 8 handles Power Management, if different from 7 at all. But that procedure should work all the same.

You say you are not getting any readings. I need to ask if the new replacement battery is actually OEM (branded and sold by DELL), or is it a third party replacement (sold by someone other than DELL)?

It was purchased directly from DELL.

It seems that this is a problem with Windows 8 and how power management is handled in that OS (based on your statement that it works correctly in Windows 7).

I suggest that you put the words "Windows 8" in your thread title, or better, post this problem over in the Windows 8 Forums.
You need to find someone running Windows 8 that is familiar with these settings on a laptop, and that is not me.
