is an ssd the only way to get an hdd score above 5.9?

my primary hdd is a western digital caviar black 1 tb drive and it has a score of 5.9. i was browsing through newegg.com's hdd page and was checking the price of a velocirapor 150 gb drive. i had assumed that anything over 7200 rpm would result in a score over 5.9. to my surprise, i saw this in one of the reviews:

to clarify my question in the post title, i'm referring to a single drive. although i don't know for sure, maybe two 7200 or 10,000 rpm drives in RAID 0 would yield a better score.

Your answer is yes. SSD is the only way. I dont understand the persiut of higher numbers. Its for comparison only.

thanks for your reply, but i have no intention of upgrading for the sake of a higher score. it was only through my navigation of newegg.com's hdd site and the finding of that post that piqued my interest in the subject.

No, you can setup a Raptor Raid 0 config and score in the 6's.

I put an Intel X-25M 160Gb G2 SSD in my Sony VAIO NW-130J laptop and I only get a 7.8. Makes me wonder what I need to do to get that magical 7.9.

I've got the Intel X25-M Gen 2 in my desktop at home and it scores a 7.4 So, there is more that goes into the score than simply what drive it is.

I have Corsair P128 in a Raid 0 config and hit 7.9...the max. To bad the ratings don't go higher then that. I'm curious how it would score.
