    My local disk is showing the "unknown" icon


    My computer has been showing the unknown icon and I can't change it. This started after I upgraded from xp to 7.

    In that case, let's see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed drive option in the tutorial below, and restart the computer may. It will restore the default associations and registry entries for it.

    Default File Type Associations - Restore

    If that still doesn't help, then please post a screenshot showing this to see if it may be something else.

    Ok, thank you. Did you already try downloading and merging the .reg file for the Drive option above?

    Hmm, ok. Let's see if rebuilding the icon cache may help if it may be corrupted.

    Ok I will try that, the other things I just tried will they mess up my computer?
