Computer almost doesn't boot after suddenly being unplugged. Help?

I am really worried about my computer. It booted normally this morning but then my cat ran past my feet and ended up unplugging it. I tried to turn it back on but no luck. Tried again 5 minutes later and still nothing. Decided to turn it on and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then it finally booted up. It's slow, but works. What should I check for? Any ideas how to fix this? I'm afraid to turn it off again.

The most likely thing that happened was that the BIOS/UEFI reset itself to defaults. Some of those default settings could be different than the ones set before this happened.

A typical one is if the SATA mode is IDE as default but was set to AHCI to install Windows. But that change usually results in a bluescreen error. Do you know what your preferred BIOS setting were?

Also, System Specs would be nice. Just whether this is a laptop or desktop can make a difference.

In any event you will need to check and see if all is OK at some point. You will most likely need to restart to make any changes anyway.
Start by backing up your data, finishing any important work, and then restarting the PC from Windows Start Menu. If it restarts normally then shut it down and then start it back up.

I'm guessing you will be fine. If any hardware was damaged it can be replaced, but you've got to take the plunge at some point.

I restarted it and it booted up like normal. I have made a backup just in case. It is a desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I'm not sure what specs you need but here is a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/LADwkdk.png Let me know if you need any others (be specific). A user on a different forum suggested I run a test program. Here are the results from that: SmartTest - Album on Imgur (album)

You restarted and it started normally - good.

Now power down, wait a few minutes, then power on. Tell us what happens.

If it starts up normally then you can breathe a sigh of relief and move on. Like I stated, it was probably reinitializing the BIOS after power loss. Treat it as a one-off event.

If it happens again, or you notice any other problems crop up then that would be the time to be concerned.

How old is the computer? It might need a new CR2032 battery (CMOS/BIOS).
