    LF,
Did you ever look in the Avast GUI > Settings > Tools to see what you have ?
You can also look in Control Panel > Programs and Features, select Avast and click Change.
You should be able to see what all is installed with Avast there, and uninstall options if you want to.

0% does not work but 1GB should work. Use the proposed 3%. You want some restore points after all.
Why would I want restore points if I don't use System Restore (imaging is far more reliable)?

Can you turn SR on in the GUI and adjust the slider to the minimum ?
Then turn it back off if you don't want it on...
    Tried that; no joy.

Same here. I never could get system Restore to work for me in Win 7 (it was hit and miss in XP) so I use Macrium Reflect to image my C: drive. I've never had a verified image fail and I had only one image fail to verify (I just reran MR and that image verified; stuff happens, I suppose).

I did and didn't see anything that I though would be related. The thread on the Avast Forums kept referring to something called NG but, unless it means No Good, I have no idea what the bloody heck they are talking about. I couldn't find anything called NG in the GUI.

    Just a thought.

Turn off restore points and remove all restore points for a test.
Then keep using Avast as you normally would and see if Avast starts making restore points again.

From what I have read in the past; when Avast starts making restore points it moves your % from what has been set to 50% and starts loading your drive over a period of time.

Look for Secure Virtual Machine, or Sandbox...depending where you look.
They have made the naming confusing imho.

Sandbox is an option in the paid version. I'm using the free one.

Someone in that thread at the Avast forums says:

"Removing the "Secure Virtual Machines" component resolves the issue."

For whatever that's worth. Can you find that component in the config?

Nope, apparently it's not part of the freebie.
