I think the hard drive is messed up as you mentioned.

    Question:
If i buy a new hdd, can i continue using the previous windows 7 cd or will i have to buy a new one?

If i buy a new hdd, i would like to have 64 bit windows, maybe windows 8. Would this be possible?

My previous cd is win 7/32 bit.

Im thinking to buy 64 bit win 8 after i buy new hdd.

Im not sure if my motherboard (asus p5n-d) will support upto 64 bit - win 8. I been trying to look but havn't found yet.

    Thanks comptech for reply.

Another thing is, i might buy upto 60gb ssd drive because it will be cheaper. I don't need 120gb or more. Just to install windows will be good enough. I have other externals i can use for storage.

So the motherboard does not matter to if windows 8/64 bit is installed.

So it looks like i can buy a ssd and a 64 bit/win 8 cd and get it all connected.

So the new ssd + win 8/64 bit will arrive tommorow and will connect it up hoping that it will work with p5n-d.

I will remove the old hard drive that does not seem to work and maybe try it from a laptop

What is wrong with re installing 7 ?

Windows 8 is terrible, why in the world would you want or even pay for that ?

You can install Windows 10 Technical Preview x64 for free.

8.1 is better then 8, but both are terrible.

Download Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO - Microsoft Windows

Any new hard drive you buy will be sata, you don`t switch the sata mode to ide in the bios, you leave it at AHCI.

You have to have a 64 bit capable CPU to install 64 bit.

You already have Windows 7 64 bit listed in your specs, so apparently you can run 64 bit. How much memory does the PC have installed ?

What cpu is in the PC ? Exactly

Please fill in your specs completely, Thank You :)

Yes i agree windows 8 is terrible. I like football games, and the latest game requires 64bit.
Maybe it's not to late and i can change and buy win 7 64bit instead of win 8/64 bit.

Here are some of pc specs:

    cpu: quad processor Q6600
ram: corsair xms2 ddr2 2gb (will buy another within few weeks totalling upto 4gb)
    motherboard: asus p5n-d
    power supply: cx600
gpu: geforce 9600 "gs or gso" << can't remember which one.
