I have my new system built and I'm doing tweaks here and there. I want to remove the "safely remove" for the SSD when you click on "Safely Remove Hardware" icon next to the clock. I had to do this once before but I forgot how. I also don't want to hurt the performance of the SSD.

I looked through them earlier and didn't find what I was looking for. It was a simple check box that had to be checked/unchecked. I can't seem to find it. I'm running Windows 7 Professional if that makes a difference.
Mine does that on my Gateway, it shows the SSD and hard drive like that.
It even showed the video card on some older machines like that, strange.
I think it`s the motherboard, but when you come up with the solution, let us all know :)
That tut says to uncheck write caching, you don`t want to do that.
have you looked under storage controllers in device manager right click choose properties and under policies might have a check box in their for the safely remove disk.
I get these options on the Gateway, which add the other options not shown on the Sabertooth Z77, which is fine.
So, that must be it Havoc. Give it a check and see.

@ oscer1: That's where it was on my last system. I don't have storage controllers on this system. Another forum mentioned removing Intel Management Engine software (included on my motherboard driver CD) and seeing if storage controllers reappears.
Then I found a mention of "hotplug". I disabled it in the BIOS for SATA 0 and the drive no longer shows in "safely remove".
That's one fix. I'm wondering if removing Intel ME will have any effect if the BIOS is set back to defaults.
What do you mean you don`t have storage controllers, you have to unless you didn`t install the chipset drivers yet.

This is what mine looks like.
If I right click on anything in there I don't get a policies tabs where I can unclick "safely remove".
The drivers listed on EVGA's website that I don't have installed are: .Net (something to do with KB2858728) and Intel RAID Management (not using RAID so I didn't install it).
I might infact be missing a piece of software. That could of happened. I'm on my fourth reinstall getting my mouse and keyboard to work.
This problem is usually caused by not having an AHCI driver installed, or using an incorrect, outdated, or the generic Windows AHCI driver.
You can usually find the correct driver on the MB manufacturer's website under Storage Controllers (or similar). The most common one is Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (IRST). Sometimes they name this a RAID driver, but it is not just for RAID.
It is important to use the correct AHCI driver. Intel makes many flavors and using the wrong one can cause other problems. So avoid looking for it directly from Intel unless you know what you are looking for.
If switching off hotswap solves the problem then you could stick with that, and then you would not need to install IRST. Switching off Hotswap on all drives that you would not actually hot swap is a good idea anyway.
