Nightmares when changing from a Logitech to an MS mouse

    Hi folks.
I had a Logitech M560 mouse and it died on me. Such is life. I bought myself a nice new MS Wireless Mouse 5000 and nightmares.
I've uninstalled everything Logitech that I could find and let JV16 clear out any extraneous rubbish. I've uninstalled Intellitype and Intellipoint too. I removed the USB mouse dongle and the mouse driver in device manager and restarted the machine. Logged in and, after the desktop was running cleanly, I plugged the dongle in. The mouse started working to some extent.

If I try to install Intellipoint... nope, already installed. And no, it's not in the programs and features list. If I go into Programs & Features > Mouse, I'm asked for the source. I cancel it and it asks again; a never ending loop. The wheel doesn't behave in Adobe Flash browser based games; wheel movement doesn't get passed on to Flash.. Same behaviour in Firefox and Chrome. I expect there are other issues.

Much the same applies with the mouse & Keyboard centre. Try to install it and it "can't delete the old version".

So... how the hell do I get a nice clean install of the mouse? Pretty please?

    Thankies.

    Simon.

You may be trying to solve the problem, beginning with the wrong premise. The problem may be not with your prior mouse ,as the cause of the problem, it may be that the new mouse just does not work right. Try exchanging the mouse and see what happens

You may also want to try unlocker, to clean out any possible remnants that still remain of the first mouse.

Richard, you're almost certainly right but, as it's dead I can't plug it back in.

Return the MS mouse as defective and try the new one. If you still have problems, uninstall the Logitech mouse with unlocker. It was free and still is as far as I know. If they are charging now, do not buy, just let us know.

Downloaded and yes, it's still free. Removed the tiny leftover from Logitech and nope, still can't install intellipoint.
