No Safely Remove Hardware Icon

My old Vista machine has an icon in the system try when I plug in a USB devise like my card reader, that tells you if/when it's ok to remove the reader after uploading pictures.

My 6 month old Windows 7 doesn't have that icon and I can't find it anywhere. I tried clicking on the task bar/Customize, scrolled down the list and it's not there. Ideas as how I can add it? On the Vista it says "Safely Remove Hardware".

A card reader might not show up, plug in a usb stick, see if that shows up.

You can always eject a drive from computer, if it shows up there.

The card reader fits into a USB port on the computer, just like a flash drive. As I mentioned, it shows up on the Vista and I assumed it would show up on Windows 7 but, no dice.

You can also use this method:

Go to Dev Mgr > right click the drive>policies and check "safe removal."

Hi everyone, I've had this problem for awhile now. When trying to eject USB devices, the safely remove hardware icon in the notification area doesn't show any connected hardware. For my 4GB USB drive, it isn't a problem, because I can eject it from windows explorer. But my external drive...

Readyboost - Safely Remove Hardware Icon
Its a niggle and not a big one, but is there no way for readyboost enabled USB sticks to not show as this system tray icon? or will W7 always recognise them as just a USB, not a permanent fixture to my machine? cheers Ben

Safely remove hardware icon.
I'm sorry if I posted this on a wrong side of the forum. Apparently, I have a small issue with my USB port. When I connect my external hard disk to the usual USB ports I normally use. It would show the "Safely remove hardware" icon but however, there is one USB port I could connect it and use it...

Remove "Safely Remove Hardware" Icon
Does anyone know how to remove the "safely remove hardware" icon in the taskbar? I do not mean hide it. I have my icons always show in the notification area because I don't like the arrow icon either. Any ideas? Thanks.
