Hello and welcome to the sevens forum.

First I don't think you can tell when your external hard drive was used, unless you have something on your system that would tell you if it was used or messed with your kind a out of luck so to speak.

You can always set up a password on your external hard drive to lock people out.

but Putting password will have problems in detecting harddisk?, i just saw this thread: accessing locked drive ... have password but cannot see drive on computer - External Hard Drive - Storage

Please tell any alternative how to know when was the last time used?

    Hi,
Encryption software is about all that can be used that I know of,
Just install it on your computer and select the external as the one to encrypt and not the computers drive,
As long as the have the software on the machine and the machine functions you should be okay,

If something happens to the machine the software is on then you'd be in a bit of a pickle
Refer to the encryption software website for that case
    Cheers.

The event viewer will record events when you plug/unplug external hard drives. See The Windows 7 Event Log and USB Device Tracking. I've never actually tried using that info, so read it and you might try it. But you're on your own. I can't provide any help in using it.

An easy utility output to read is USBLogView. But I think it only runs in the foreground, meaning it would have to be started and kept running in someone's user account
