How do I enable touchpad vertical scrolling?

When I go to the Control Panel > Mouse, I get an error message that says that my laptop is not recognizing my touchpad.

It still lets me open the configure window if I hit "no," and when I go to Device Settings > Scrolling > One-Finger Scrolling, it does not let me check the "Enable Vertical Scrolling" box. When I click the box, nothing happens.

My Synaptics driver is enabled to turn on at start up, so I don't know why this problem is happening.

I think I must have disabled something in msconfig without realizing it, because one day when I turned on my laptop I just wasn't able to use vertical scrolling. Any ideas? Advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Hello moonlightxmania and welcome to Seven Forums.

If this issue just recently started you may be able to roll back your computer to a date/time prior to when it first began. See if you have a restore point that goes back that far.

    System Restore

Another possibility is to see if you can update the Synaptics driver. Just as an example, my computer uses the Alps pointing device. When I go to control panel > mouse I get this:

When I click the Hardware tab and then double click on Alps pointing device I get this:

Click on the Driver tab and see if the "Update Driver" button can be clicked. (Mine is grayed out because I have the newest available driver.) If you can update the driver, do so. Please post back if your problem gets resolved.

I was able to update the Synaptics driver by downloading it from their website. Now everything works great! Thanks so much!
