    Wireless connection to a projector

    Hi guys.

I'm a long-time reader of these forums, and have found a lot of solutions here throughout the years. This time I have a very specific question and I don't think it's been asked yet.

I have an older desktop PC in my living room (AMD A4-3400 APU) running Windows 7. I'm looking for a good way to hook it up to a projector, without running a cable from my PC to the projector and preferably with the projector being recognized as a secondary screen. Any ideas on how to do so are welcome!

What I have considered so far:

The only built-in support I can think of is connecting to it as a network projector. What exactly makes a projector qualify as a network projector to Windows 7? I suppose having Wifi doesn't suffice. What kind of specification should I be looking for?

I could buy a projector that runs Android 4.2 and has Wifi with Miracast support. (I would actually prefer this because these are very versatile devices.)
I have been looking at the newer Wifi Direct standards such as Miracast and Intel WiDi. As far as I can tell, my PC's hardware doesn't support either, and buying a simple Wifi dongle won't do the trick. (My PC is hooked up to a LAN cable.)

Finally, I have seen some wireless VGA adapters, but I find them very expensive. If anyone knows of reasonably priced alternatives, please let me know!

I've never seen one in action or read any reviews but this springs straight to mind and may be worth a little research - Buy Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter - Microsoft Store United Kingdom Online Store

    Personally I use a wireless projector - Epson EH-TW6100W Full HD 1080p 3LCD 3D Wireless: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

The specs say that you need "Miracast-enabled" Windows 8.1 for that. Will it work on 7?
