Random Freeze and high GPU Fan Speed

Lately, I have been having an issue with my desktop build randomly freezing and the GPU fan will go 100%. Not sure what the issue is, tried re-installing the drivers and that did not help. This issue has been happening for the past week and nothing has changed as far as hardware or software. (This is occuring on the first build listed in the specs area).

It had happened minutes ago while listening to Pandora and the sound froze like an old Nintendo game, screen blank, and high fan. I checked to see if there were any BSOD dumps but did not find any, which I find very odd.

Any ideas?

What are the temperatures of your GPU at idle and under load?

Currently it's at around 120°F/49°C. I would run FurMark but I am afraid that it may just do the same thing again, which leads me to believe it is the video card but I have never had temp issues before (especially when just idling).

You'd need a test like Furmark to prove it is/isn't the card really. 49°C at idle does seem high though, is the fan/s spinning on your card?

The fan is spinning, currently at 33%. However, as soon as I tried FurMark with these settings in the image, it instantly crashed.

Also, on a side note. Is there a program that monitors GPU usage like the taskmanager for CPU so I can see what is using it up? Sometimes the fan will go high and when I check using GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner, GPU usage is high even though I am not doing anything.

If Furmark's crashing straight away it sounds bad. The GPU-Z link at the bottom of Furmark should give you a GPU monitoring tool.

Yes, I am aware of that. What I was meaning is there any program that tells me what process is using the GPU like you can view in the Task Manager?

From what it sounds like, do you think it needs new thermal paste? Or does this sound software related? Hopefully I have some handy...

It's possible, it's worth a try. I doubt it's software related to be honest although I could be wrong.
