What things are safe and good for cleaning the exterior of a computer case? Are things like baby wipes and Swiffer dusters safe? (This is what I usually use and it seems to have done no damage so far on my new and old computer) Any cautions to be aware of when cleaning the outside of the case?
A mild dishwasher soap and water solution like you'd use to clean most anything. It's not going to hurt paint over metal.
The obvious precaution is to not let any of the solution get inside and stay away from connection points, switches, or any moving parts.
Real men do no more than wipe with a slightly damp cloth, if anything at all---unless they've done something unspeakable to the case.
I like to use a spray furniture polish. I spray a little on a microfiber cloth and apply it sparingly. It will give a painted surface a soft glow and brighten up plastic parts. I suggest testing the polish on an inconspicuous spot on plastic first. Also, it may not be a good idea on plastic windows; for those, I would brush off the dust and use a LCD cleaner. For that matter, LCD cleaner would also be good for the case itself.
So it's ok as long as it doesn't get in the case? Swiffer dusters and baby wipes are safe? The main reason I clean the case is because dust starts showing up so fast on the case, most likely because my apartment is close to the street and I'm only on the 5th floor.
I use rubbing alcohol, 50% or 70%, applied with a cotton pad. This cleans well and does not damage, in my experience. Also, microfiber cloths are great for dusting and buffing. You can get them at the dollar store nowadays.
Well the cheap microfiber cloths here in Korea have too much lint though.. but thanks for your reply too. :)

Moisture is electronics' enemy :)
Unfortunately if your getting a lot of exterior dust.. that would also be pulled inside the case as well,
Might need to do a weekly inside the case blowout as well
