Their are hundreds of case you could choose from. It just takes a little research. Their has got to one that will suite your needs and looks good to you.

Many old Dell and HP that will not except todays new power supplies. They just don't fit. Cable management would also be a nightmare.

Not sure where you`re at right now but....

Look at the price on this Z87 Wolfgang, it`s a steal, and there`s no need for a Z97.

    ASUS SABERTOOTH Z87 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI 6 x SATA 6Gb/s support by Intel Z87 2 x SATA 6Gb/s support by ASMedia ASM1061 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com

The Z97 has less sata ports , but it has sata express, but it`s $100 more.

And what wattage do you want to use for a PSU ?

EVGA - Products - Power Supplies

And the 4790K is cheapest at Micro Center.

The Sabertooth Z87 is a great board, a quick BIOS flash and you're set for the 4790k. At that price it's a steal.

Yeah right, the PSU may be a problem. I would take a modular one so that the extra wires are not in the way. I once replaced the PSU in an older HP box and that was no problem - that was when I still could see well. I used a new Antec PSU (see picture). That one was not modular and a pain with all the extra wires. And water cooling is definitely also an option.

Yes those guys in Germany build systems all the time. But it is difficult to find an off white metallic box that matches my off white furniture in my office. Plus this Dell box is in perfect condition. Why trash it.

I was looking at the Sabertooth. That is a nice board. Question is whether the ports will line up in my box.

As to PSU wattage - it does not really matter. I would think that 500 to 600 Watts are ample since I will not have a separate graphics card. I don't play games so the on-board graphics is OK.

If you want an off-white one check out BitFenix, they make some great white/off-white cases.

Because putting such high end gear in that case would be like putting a V-8 engine in this

Thanks for the links. I like the "quiet" part. That is important because the box is right next to me on the desk.

Several PSU manufacturers make units in which the fans do not spin at all unless temps or load exceed a certain level.

If you don't intend to use a graphics card, I'd guess your load will be somewhere between 70 and 150 watts nearly all of the time, so you aren't likely to need a powerhouse PSU and could certainly get one that had only a part time fan--which may never spin in your situation.

I don't use a graphics card and recently went to a totally fanless power supply with no regrets at all. Super Flower brand. I think they are marketed prominently in Europe. I'm noise-conscious as you are.

Thanks Ignatz. I will look into that. I guess you meant PSU rather than CPU.
