Safely remove hardware - alternative needed
I need an alternative to the 'safely remove hardware' button in the sytem tray. This is cos I kill my taskbar with a little app in my startup folder resulting in just the start pearl showing but no actual bar, system notifications, etc. A problem has arisen in trying to safely remove a peripheral. With flash drives, SD cards, modems, etc I can still click on My Computer, right-click the device and select 'eject' or 'safely remove'. This doesn't work with my external harddrive though. There is no 'eject' or 'safely remove' option when I right click it.
Does anyone know of an alternative? I've done a fair bit of searching but found nothing yet and Micosoft's help page is no has nothing on the topic
