Is the monitor or the computer on the fritz?

    Gateway DX4720-03 computer/Dell U2312HM monitor

Well, everything was working fine with my monitor until I opened up this morning. The screen is a lot darker than normal, with a definite bigger fall off of light in the lower right hand corner. but brighter just above the dark part starting about the middle of the upper half of the right edge. This is the only bright part of the screen. Here's a full screen shot, but not sure if the brighter part of the screen will show:

The only thing I can think of that may have thrown things out of klter was that on the previous day I was trying to calibrate the screen, getting it ready for a new camera. I was using various programs to try to get the best screen images. Used the built in Nvidia manager, the Windows manager and a few calibrator's downloaded from the net. These later downloads were all from reputable sources. Nonetheless, when I closed up for the day, the screen was fine.

This morning I tried to rectify the dullness of the screen by manipulating Nividia and the Windows calibration programs, but nothign worked. Both the monitor and the computer are fairly new, maybe 5 years old at the most. As I'm not sure if the problem lies with the computer or the monitor, I'd like to be able lcheck things out before I go get new devices.

Damn, I'm such a dummy. Wife just came home and suggested the same. So, before I opened your reply, I put in an older monitor. And, of course, it worked. So, it's time to get a new monitor.
