How to read raw data from CD-ROM?

Using CD / DVD ROM, I would like to read the raw data. I do know that the physical data are coded into (possibly) non-zero-return code, and then using Reed-Solomen Interleaved code, and had some synchronization data in between the data bits.

While I do not expect that I would be able, using software alone, to get all of this, but at least I'd like to get as low level as possible.

My aim is research-related. I would need to place the head at specific location and would like to read tha data there.

    Any ideas?

I only understand the word RAW in your post. Rest all Greek and Latin.

Thanks, I will give it a try. The problem is that I do not find a technical documentation for the software, or at least what they mean by 'raw data'.

You may rummage through the site for all available documentation. You may also read the help file in the program. There is a lot said about many things there.

You might see if a Disk Editor will give you what you're looking for. The image below shows a clip of the one I have used. You have to work with off-sets but that sounds like what you're doing or wanting to do. I just placed an old catalog CD in the drive and selected it for open. I've never tried a DVD but it should work as well. The CD information is in the left pane.

That isn't the raw data shown in post #7 but I think that is the closest you are going to get. I don't think the raw data is accessible to software.

Perhaps forensic software is what the OP is looking for but it's not cheap. The above example is freeware.
