In the market for a laptop.

Hey all I figure I ask the pros before I do this.. I'm in the market for a new laptop in the $800 - #1000 range... you know, 4 gigs ram, win 7, good graphics, etc.. I was looking at a few Dells but maybe there's a smaller company that amkes good ones that some one may have a recommendation.
All suggestions welcome. Thank you all in advance...
    Best regards..

I've had Dell Latitudes at work for a number of years (8+) and have been very impressed/happy with them.

My wife had an Acer at home and while it was a nice machine for the money, tech support was via email only and we had to send the laptop off 2 times for repairs.

My wife currently has an HP laptop and it's been fine...so no experiences with support or otherwise.

What about the Sony Viao's? Anyone have issues with them? I'm looking to purchase a laptop as well and am considering a Viao.

I'm not sure that I would agree that they run hot. I haven't had any heat problems with the 4 Dell laptops that I have had. In fact, the one that I have now (an E6400 with a 2.33Ghz C2D and 4GB of RAM), the fan hardly ever runs on this thing.
