USB Bandwidth exceeded

hello everyone,

After recently fixing a BSOD problem that was related to me disabling audio drivers i came back to my computer after 2-3 days of not using it and for some reason the ethernet port was not working, I tried new cables, disabling and re enabling the adapter, updating drivers the works and still it would not work, so after trawling the net i read that resetting the CMOS had fixed this issue for someone who had this problem previously and to my surprise it worked. Now i have just bought a new PC gaming headset and when i use it i get the USB Bandwidth controller exceeded error message and the Mic stops working on the headset and when i look at the USB devices it has spiked to 66% where as other devices are 3% 5% its deffinately the headset that is spiking to 66% so this is making me ask tyhe question would have reseting the CMOS have brrough this whole new issue on?.

Also sometimes i get the same message but the USB headset is for example sitting at 11% i only have 3 devices connected a keyboard, mouse and headset.

What i have also noticed is that since the CMOS reset when i power the PC on and it boots to windows i hear the windows 7 sound of a USB device being plugged in twice, i imagine once for mouse and once for keyboard now these devices are left connected at all times and i did not used to do this before i reset the CMOS.

Brian

Did you try other ports? Plug headset to a front port?

If that fails, try:
- remove headset
- restart PC
- run Drive Cleanup Drive Tools for Windows from 64-bit folder as administrator
- restart, scan with CCleaner - registry
- install headset

i have tried every port on the system the same thing occurs im just using my old logitech MX518 mouse just now and the error has not appeared but what im wanting to use peripheral wise is Ducky Shine II keyboard (White Leds) Steelseries rival mouse (Led) and SteelSeries Siberia Elite Prism headset also has LED's on them is this why its sucking so much power or should 3 devices be OK? what about turning LED's off on mouse and headset would that there for use less USB power?

I just done a fresh install off windows 7 this evening so everything should be squeaky clean.

Plug in the USB devices
Go into Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
Right click the USB Root Hub entries and select Properties
Switch to Power tab
Note Total Power Available.
And see if Attached Devices power required exceeds Total Available.

I have 2x USB Root Hub properties

1 shows

USB Composite Device 100mA
Logitech MX518 98 mA
Usb Composit Device 200 mA
7 port(s) Availiable 0 mA

The other shows

Usb Mass Storage (thumb drive which i dont normlaly use) 500 mA
9 port(s) Avialibale 0mA

Now with the Flash drive removed and the Logitech removed i now have the 3x peripherals i would like to use. and it shows as follows

USB COMPOSITE DEVICE 100mA
USB COMPOSITE DEVICE 200mA
USB COMPOSITE DEVICE 200mA

it shows as 500mA PER port now is this one port or the total ammount for how many ports are connected to this one ROOT?

Also would buying a PCI-E USB card with say 3 or 4 more USB 3.0 ports give me more power to feed these devices or not?

And what is the total power available? Same screen, above in Hub information.
I guess 100mA is keyboard, 98 is obvious and 200mA is the headset.
Are the leds enabled?

When you say you tried all ports, did you try headset in the thumb drive port?

I edited my post they both state 500 mA so the keyboard is 100 and the mouse and headset are 200 each hitting the 500 bang on maybe sometimes going just over when using the mic on the headset thus causing the maximum bandwidth exceeded? I tried all 3 of my ports on the back and four on the front and with those 3 peripherals connected the error kept occurring. And yes I had the LEDs on I'll try turning them off and see if it dropped the mA output to the devices.

Well one of the solutions on the link I gave was using a powered USB hub. No idea about PCI-e card.
500mA should be per port so I don't think it would be the problem.
Can you try your headset in some other PC/laptop?
