Query on monitor resolutions

Have got a chance of buying a refurbished Dell UltraSharp U2410 24 Full HD IPS Widescreen on EBay for $220 something I don't usually buy this sort of gear from but the specs are really good as is the sellers rep.

Now I have Googled around and tried to find an answer re - will this 1920x1200 res monitor be ok for the max res of my laptop - 1920x1080.

I can get a new Samsung IPS for $260 though the screen brightness is 250 cd/m2 as opposed to the Dell's 400 cd/m2 and I do like a bright screen.

Any thoughts welcome.

John, what is your GPU on laptop? It is possible it supports 1920x1200 on VGA/DVI/HDMI.

Sorry late reply mate (at work) the lappy has the Intel HD 4600 and the GTX 860M but apparently the GTX doesn't cut in unless the machine is being driven too hard for the Intel ie intensive gaming. So as I don't game very much at all I only ever run on the Intel - 1920x1080.

I mean I can go the Samsung but it was the cd/m2 that caught my eye.

PS the machine is this https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultra...US_ROG_G750JM/

Well, it seems HD 4600 is more capable than 1920x1080, check this out https://communities.intel.com/message/241796

GTX 860M is capable of 1920x1200 also (and some more depending on port used) GeForce GTX 860M | Specifications | GeForce

Hmm interesting Gokhan thanks for those links - I sorta guessed the GTX would do probably any resolution and the Intel seems to be goer with it too I just need to decide now whether I should go the Dell or the Samsung. I did toy with the idea too that I should go 27" even though I would be spending a but more - I have a 27" Samsung at my place which rather spoils you somewhat as that is an IPS screen.

Trouble is I am a bit of a procrastinator as I always come across stuff that I think might be better plus I do tend to feel a bit guilty about spending money like that on myself.

Anyway I don't have to rush at it I suppose.

Problem with screen resolutions on new monitor
Hi. My old monitor gave out and I bought a better one. It has a native resolution of 1920x1080 (recommended) so I set it that way. But stuff didn't fit on the screen. Through the HDMI output to my TV (for watching movies), everything looked fine but not on the monitor itself, connected via VGA...

In Resource monitor I just noticed this percentage of Maximum Frequency. What does it mean? The CPU was not running the fast at the time. At times it would say 293% with CPU usage around 20-30%.

Dell LCD Monitor Has Horizontal Lines on all Resolutions but 1280x1024
Hello! I have a Dell Monitor model # 1908fwpt and we have used it as an external for a few laptops now, and on the last two hook-ups it has constant, non-flickering white horizontal lines across the screen. The only resolution that doesn't is 1280x1024 for some reason. I have changed the cables,...
