Fix Partition Names

Something changed all my partitions names to local disk. All the drive letters are ok and in disk management all the right names are there. If I try to rename a partition inside computer it does not change and stays local disk. What would cause the partition names to change when I open computer, but disk management all the names are there. How can I make them go back to the names I chose instead of local disk.Anyone have any ideas.I also checked in Safe Mode and after opening the computer icon all the disk names are there like they should be,just in windows normal mode it showes local disk.Update..I installed a new windows 7 this morn and even on a fresh install all my named partitions showes as Local Disk but in disk management all the names are correct the way I had them.Any suggestions on how to fix this appreciated greatly..On another site someone posted that its a disk permission issue,if so how is this reset.

See if this helps - Cannot Rename Hard Disks

Quote:
Open disk management under computer management console right click the affected drive and choose "Change drive letter and paths", now choose "Remove" drive letters.
then wait for 30 seconds and click refresh. and then click "Add" to regain the original drive letter. now, check your drives in my computer,, you will be able to rename the affected drives this time...

It does work, but soon as the computer is rebooted, all the partitions I renamed are back to local disk.

Does Windows save logs somewhere that shows folder names / file names?
Probably it doesn't and my question is a long shot - but I recently toasted a drive, and it had many folders and files which I have little memory of. I also never used one of those nice apps that makes a list. Any help appreciated. Much obliged. Tt
