Samsung laptop not recognizing usb mice

    Hi,
I'm having problems with my Samsung Laptop (windows 7 x64bit). I've tried two different usb mice. One is one I got with my iBuyPower pc. The other is a V7. Neither of them are recognized. Strangely enough, both of my Logitech mice DO work. One is wired, the other wireless. Neither of them are working properly so that's when I went to use these two wired mice that I know work on other pc's and discovered this problem.

I've tried restarting after disconnecting the device. Removed the battery (I run the laptop plugged in). Checked the power management settings as well as disabling the selective suspend setting.

I'm at a loss here as to what the problem is. Fortunately I only use the laptop to load other clients for a game I play so it's not that big of an issue, but it's still driving me bonkers.

    Any ideas?

Update: The Elan Smart-pad isn't being automatically disabled when I plug in these mice, even though I have that option checked. Can't figure out how to resolve this.

    Anyone here?

    You can try:

Get the MS fixit following Microsoft Fix it - Portable (link in step 1).

Select by category: Install or upgrade software or hardware

    Run:
    - Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows
    - (not sure but) Diagnose and fix Windows USB problems automatically

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I ran Fix It. No changes. I'm writing this with the usb mouse plugged in but can only use the Smart-pad.... uggggg!

Does it work in Safe Mode?
Or with another user account? User Account - Create

Tried both of the above... no change. When I plug in either of the two generic usb mice I can only use the Smart-pad, not the mouse. It still ignores the fact that I have the "disable smart-pad" option checked if a mouse is plugged into the usb port.

Sorry, I will add some steps soon after I start up the PC. Did you try the problem mice in another PC?
