Get Partition Wizard free and start its Partition Recovery Wizard, select the HDD, disk and quick scan. See if your files/folders show up. Screenshot the results and double click any partitions and screenshot them too. Post all here.

did that, same result..it shows unallocated space, but when I click on it, the proceed button is greyed out because it can't find a partition.

what if I go through comp mgt and click to create new partition.....then use recovery software to try to recover formatted partition

Click on what???????? Where is the Proceed??????

Are you following the right procedure?

Launch PW.

Then on the left pane click on Partition Recovery Wizard > Next > Choose your drive > Next > Full Disk > Next > Quick scan >Next.

After QuicK Scan completes you will get a Window showing the found partitions. Post the screenshot of it.

Double click on that partition/s also and show the files.

You may then close the Partition explorer, click on the Cancel tab to close the Window and then close PW. ( You may run Quick Scan again if needed.)

Hello 7up!

I'm sorry for your problem!

Make sure you are following Jumanji's instructions on how to properly sue the recovery software. Since your drive is showing as Unallocated, and there's obviously a problem with the partition, as already discussed, you have very few options to try on your own. :/

You could either use a partition recovery software or data recovery software on your own, or you could use professional help. Usually, if there is some sort of additional minor or greater physical damage to the disk while it's in such a state, any recovery software used at a home environment hides the risk of further damage, both to the device and data, and recovery availability becomes less likely. Also, if the recovery software has difficulty recognizing a partition, this may mean it's beyond repair.

If your data is truly important, you could look into professional Data Recovery services, WD has partners in the field.

But first, please post screenshots of the error, while using the recovery software, of Disk Management, as well.

unallocated hard drive space
I have a 5610Z Acer Aspire with Windows 7 (32 bit). I pulled a very boneheaded move getting to upgrade from Vista. I deleted my D:drive (50 G). I back up to a 500 G external hard drive. Is there a way to add the 59G to C:drive where I could use the space. Thanks Brightlight864:o
