TO 4K or not to 4K

Just a quick query to the graphics experts - I just missed out on getting a Dell P2815Q 28" 4K Ultra HD Monitor that a new supplier I have found was selling it for $399. I also missed out on a similar deal two weeks ago on a large 4K Dell for $349 both well under half price.
Now the first one I was put off by the refresh rate being 33Hz and being a bit unsure if this would have suited my needs didn't get it. Now this current offer was 60Hz refresh rate but has sold out.

I was / am about to get an ASUS VX279H 27in IPS from an alternate site when I saw these offers but again didn't know if my rig - an Asus ROG G750JM laptop with a GTX 860M would be able to cope with the extra resolution as someone mentioned to me before it only cuts in when the going gets tough otherwise it runs on the Intel HD 4600 graphics which are not bad but if there is a way of switching to the NVidia then next time an offer like these comes up I will go get it - so depending on what everyone thinks I will put off getting the Asus IPS.

Any advice would be really appreciated as I am not relay into the machinations of graphics cards as such. I have to add that I have never had much luck running games on a machine so don't really bother but I do really like a quality picture.

John for day to day use you should be OK as far as I'm aware, if you think about it TV boxes that feed 4K TVs don't have high end GPUs in them! If you were gaming on the other hand it would be a flat out no, the 860M just wouldn't handle 4K at all.

Thanks Gav well I might just stick with that IPS Asus for the time being cos I have missed those offers and don't know when they will come up again.

The Intel HD on this machine I have is running a Samsung 27D390 at 1920x1080 (the res the machine runs at normally) and isn't that bad but thanks for the input mate - appreciated:)
