When you run Trimtest, you have to re-run it a second time (wait 20 seconds).
Since you have left the previous test half way, manually delete the trimtest-cont.json file (may be hidden). Run the test, exit and wait 20 seconds. Then re-run. Post that 2nd test if you can't make out what's being reported.

With SATA2 specs and Samsung 840 you should see 240-270 MB/s speeds.

Is your 840 Evo or Pro? Did you update to the latest firmware?
    Hey,

Ran Trimtest again and it looks like it works :)

Had a SSD programme that helped me tick the boxes in terms of SSD Setup, but I don't see any improvements...

Guess the next step for my rig is to get her a new motherboard?

    Anyhow,

    Thanks for the help guys!

    Much appreciated :)

we're trying to solve a nonexistent problem.
performance is not as expected is not a precise diagnosis.
what is the purpose of the computer and where is it lacking?
are programs loading slowly while the cpu is not maxing out a single core?

apparently someone just put my sata II vs III sentiment to the test here:
SSD's on SATA II vs SATA III
