2 Monitor Display Suddenly Freezes Computer - Can't Connect Via HDMI

I use 2 monitors (see below). Both worked fine for over a year then the digital monitor suddenly went blank and the computer now has problems booting and displaying. Everything works fine when nothing is connected by HDMI. Both monitors work when connected as analogs (one at a time because I only have one pin connection).

I have confirmed:
  • There is no malware/virus on my computer.
  • HDMI cable is fine (I have 2 new cables, and switching cables doesn't change anything).
  • I think all drivers are up to date
  • Windows 7 Pro is up to date.

Computer:
Dell Vostro 270s, Intel Quad Core i5-3450S CPU @2.80 GHz
Windows 7 Pro with Service Pack 1
Video card Intel HD Graphics Family
Monitors:
Samsung: SD24D300 digital
Dell E2011H generic PnP analog
Any suggestions?

Good idea. I tried several times before I figured out that it was the HDMI causing problems, but I couldn't get it to successfully restore. I'll try again.

If system restore does not work, then a suspect graphics card is likely. It's possible something is wrong with the HDMI circuit & when it is connected it causes problems with the analogue one as well.

If System Restore doesn't help, try running in elevated cmd:
Code:
sfc /scannow
Let us know if corruption is found.

Another thing you can try: download Linux Mint MATE and make bootable DVD/USB. Boot with it (no installation needed) and see if displays are working.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try them all tonight.

I have a video card with both a DVI and an HDMI output and a monitor with only an HDMI input. Should I connect my monitor to my PC with an HDMI cable or with a DVI - HDMI cable?

Use HDMI or DVI to connect monitor to computer.
Hello all, I have a quick question. My new graphics card has a HDMI port and I was wondering if there is any advantage of using that port to connect my graphics card to my monitor over the normal DVI port? Is it worth buying the cable that I would need to do this> many thanks,

Dual Monitors, HDMI monitor doesn't display BIOS
My old monitor has problems turning on, I can leave it on for 30hrs before it decides to display a picture, or I can manipulate it by unplugging the DVI cable from the back, but sometimes even that takes a few tries. It's off warranty and for reference it's a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW. So I...
