    External hdd not installing

    Hello
I have my old hdd from laptop put into kingston think that makes it able to connect with usb.
i have som films on it and i wanted to coppy them to my laptop and my desktop. i plugged it to laptop and it auto installed itself but when i put it into my desktop it didnt even make the sound that i connected something to it. i coopied some important things using my usb but it just take so much time i ingorred lot of thing.
the usb i plugged it into works with my headset, mouse, keyboard, usb but not that hdd. i tried it on every single one usb port but it didnt work
i need it to install because it takes lot of time to do using usb and maybe other things wont works too.
and why it installs again if i plug it to different port? is it registry thing?

Ok V1 mate try my little ditty and see how you go because I have got a lot of data using this method and there is also a similar way using Linux Mint but I just find Ubuntu easier.

    BOOTABLE UBUNTU

Make a bootable Ubuntu disk http://www.ubuntu.com/download

Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when themachine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL >select TRY not INSTALL

When it is finished - it takes very little time youwill get a screen like in the pic .

Open the drive you want > User and dig downuntil you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy / paste thematerial you want to an external source or other installed drive doing this.

I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tonsof data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drivesthat you cannot get data from using Windows, plus it doesn't involve Windows of course.
