HDD needs replacing

Hi, I have a HP Pavillion dm3 with a broken hard drive, the laptop is in otherwise great condition, I have just purchased an identical laptop that had been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, however the carcass of the laptop is in poor condition, my question is, can I take the HDD out of this laptop and put it straight into my laptop that has the bad HDD, even tho it worked on windows 7?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I'm not sure why you would want too ?
10 is an oem product it is tied to the machine that was upgraded so even though the manually switching is easy to do you will run into issues eventually with activation.

With your basic thought to replace the hdd is valid just use a new hdd instead of the new machines hdd they are cheap.

Thanks for the advice, but if I was to put in a new HDD with no OS, how would the laptop boot up, the windows back up was partitioned into the failed HDD?

Replacing HD
My Seagate HD recently failed a confidence test (that was new to me). I was able to recover from my external back-up and although the drive seems fine I want to replace it. I have a 1TB WD drive to add and it has a 64M cache vice the Seagate's 32M cache. Once I've installed it and cloned my current...

Replacing an SSD
I have a 60gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD and want to replace it with a 120GB SSD. I had my present system built for me by a friend as I am not very computer savvy, but I thought I might do the replacement myself. The only thing that worries me is do I need to tinker around with the BIOS, or should it be...

Replacing a HDD with 2
Hi. I am running W7 Ultimate and my present HDD is a 500Gb disc. I would like to replace this disc with two new 1Tb discs so that I can mirror them (RAID 1). How do I do this and still retain all my present data from the old disc? Thanks. Mike.

Replacing A Fan
I need to replace the exhaust fan in my HAF922 case, because it has become noisy. Shopping eBay, it would be far cheaper to use this Antec fan instead: Antec Big Boy 200mm TriCool Case Fan - eBay (item 190467077844 end time Dec-10-10 18:29:46 PST) I couldn't care less that it has no LED, but...

Replacing MBR
I know this has been covered in many threads and posts. I have read them all and tried them all and still cannot replace Windows 7/64's MBR. My next step is to format, re-install and recover a Win7 image, but thought I would try here first. I've done the Win7 install / repair/ Command prompt /...

Replacing W7 RC with W7 Pro...
I've been running the Release Candidate on my computer for a while but now have a legit version of W7 Pro available to me through school. Can I simply launch the setup of the new version or do I need to format my drive to get rid of the RC and start from scratch? Thanks.
