Years ago I had a close by Ham operator that I could pickup on my screen door. I'm not kidding. I can still see the antenna from my back yard. The government shut that operator down.
So yes cyclops idea that it can be a external interference problem could be correct.
I have myself had a poor ballast for a florescent light cause interference.

Layback Bear, I hope reble comes back laughing about that being the cause.
I've had people insist that I am nuts when I say that Ihear strange noises. I usually find the cause after hunting it down like trying to find the cricket in my basement.

I don't have any foot warmers right now. My Icom IC-730 is stricly barefoot. I did have a nice Ameritron AL-811H that I got from Ebay asis and rebuilt it. That AL-811H had a hard life. The bios voltage was cranked way up. I had to replace a few coils, resistors and new tubes. When I was done with it I could relay reach out and touch people. I am not sure what the swr meter and Cobra are worth. I would think maby $25. for both of them. BTW reble is my old cb handle.

Hey reble, do you have radios and amps turned on near your computer rig? I am wondering if RF might be messing with the wireless keyboard and receiver. I used to run a 750 watt linear with a SSB/CB and it would bleed into my house phones, stereo, television and baby monitor. Long ago if I keyed up the mic at a red light I'd get the light to change. RF can do some crazy stuff to other devices.

By the way, what is an antique analog swr meter and an old Cobra 29 worth?

I know what you mean about reaching out. I used to skip half way around the world on a good night and had regular contact with folks in OK an WA while I sit here in VA. It's always nice when you need to reach someone in traffic and you can.

Yes I know. I have heard strange noises my self. I sometimes think I am hearing the house phone ring when it isn't. I also get noise in my Icom IC-730 hf rig when my window air conditioner compressor kicks in. It makes so much rf noise that it wipes out the receive on the IC-730 until the compressor kicks off. But I have an alt plain for getting on the hf bands because my antenna on my apt balcony is a compromised jerry rig given the apt complex rules about no antennas on the roof. The alt plain is a remote base controlled over the internet. The prog is at RemoteHams.com - Home . The remote base I normally use is on a farm way out in the boondocks near Beaver Creek Oregon. It is so rf quiet on that farm that you can hear a pin drop.

You could also have a qualified person check the electrical wiring in the house with a special double check on the ground (earth).

This is an apt and with the new manager in place. Nothing gets fixed unless you are Mexican. This coming spring we are going to start looking for a new place to live. I hope we can find a house to rent that won't kill the budget.
