Bingo! I've fixed this problem before.
Well back at my place and Bingo you have doen it again uninstalled the Magician which I am sure is not that necessary anyway and back came my USB ports

Thank you so much CG - and everyone else of course.

Am not going to install Magician again at least for the time being.

I remember a couple of months ago reading that Magician was causing problems. You would think that problem would of been fixed by now.

Whoo Hooo! Glad we fixed your problem!! In summary (for benefit of anyone reading the thread in future)

Samsung Magician lower class filter SamsungRapidDiskFltr may cause the error

This device cannot start. (Code 10) along with USB ports or USB flash drives don't work

    • Post 15 to check the Class lower filters for your Disks
    • Post 18 last snapshot shows Class lower filter SamsungRapidDiskFltr exists
    • Solutions reported
      • Uninstall / reinstall Samsung Magician (or just leave it uninstalled, of course), or
      • Simply try turning off Rapid Mode (and verify the Samsung filter is no longer still there)

(or just leave it uninstalled, of course)
Actually for what it did and I am no expert this is probably the best thing to do, as I could not see any appreciable (if any) difference in using the program/feature apart from telling me the read/write rates that is

Thanks again to everyone who chipped in.
    John:)
