Loading Linux From A USB Stick

I read a tutorial by WHS (I think) outlining steps to take when you need to use Linux to get files off a system with a corrupted OS.
I would like to know which of the following first boot device choices I would use to boot Linux off of a USB stick ??

    USB-FDD
    USB-ZIP
    USB-CDROM

Actually, your usb stick should show up in the list when you use the boot menu.
