8 Core Processor only registers as 1?

Ok, so I built a pc that I use for graphic design I make 3D models in Cinema 4D, and animate in After Effects. Yesterday morning I got up, and I didn't feel like starting the day with intense activities. So I decided I wanted to play a game on my computer. I got on, and for some reason I get random lag spikes... I was thinking its not possible my computer is lagging in this game. I checked my task manager, and it showed 94% cpu usage. I looked what was taking up that much of my cpu, and it was my game! I was so confused cause I let my little sister use my computer to play the exact game about 3 days before this, and I wasn't in the least laggy. So I go into C4D to model after a while of modeling, and animating the cameras in Cinema 4D. I start rendering the animation in png format, and I only saw a single core working on this. I went to msconfig to see if It can change the processor settings, and it only has 1 core in the drop down. I've tried many things to get this issue fixed I sat on support lines for the longest time seeking help, and they weren't going to do anything for me unless I paid 150$. I've tried 3 different lines, and none seem to work out without any sort of charge this includes Microsoft tech support. I would greatly appreciate some help here I'm doing my best to get this issue fixed as soon as possible because I have due Graphics projects, and I cannot afford to pay 150$ to a tech support line.

Alex,
Have you got a restore point prior to your sisters playing on the comp.
If so use it, and make a note of which program will be changed, then youll know what she changed.

Roy

see screenshot to amend processor count

It shows always "1" - this is not unusual, just confusing. Here is my quad core:

I even have the box checked, My cpu and motherboard drivers are up to date. I've uninstalled all my cores, and then re-installed them. I have no idea what to do...

If you "need" to check that everything is working correctly with your multi-core processor you will need a more specific tool - the one I recommend is freeware HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information, Analysis and Monitoring Tools which will show a lot of info on the processor and everything else on your PC. (for some reason this program will often offer to upgrade the program, on start up, to the latest version even when you are running the latest - this can be ignored, the program is fine)

There is nothing you need to do. You worry about a red herring.
