HDD partition and directory disappears after copying
I have an external Iomega 500gb drive onto which I placed everything of importance in order to swap out my internal drive. Unfortunately I cut and pasted everyting in order to make sure it easier to go through my c: drive and be sure that I got everything I wanted.
After everything was transferred a scan disk was running and was then interrupted. When I went to go back and check on the drive it said that I needed to reformat/ I reran a scan disk and it fixed some things and placed others into a found folder.
I used testdisk and it verified the partition and directory. I then copied a 500mb folder which went very slow but did transfer. I went back into testdisk to copy another folder but the directory and partition were missing. It seems that if the drive is shut off for awhile and restarted the partition and directory reappear.
The transfer was very slow on my usb 2 but I am not sure if hooking directly to the motherboard (which I have never done before) would be beneficial because it seems to be a reading problem not a sending problem.
This is my first venture into the realms of hard drive issues. Any help would be much appreciated. I am scared of doing the wrong thing and losing it all
