When turning on laptop, sometimes it displays info sometimes does not

Hi

I have a laptop here which is HP G62.

It's been functioning fine. Just from a few days ago, when powered on, it would not display anything on the screen.

So i held the power button to shut it down then did the same to power it on.

Sometimes it would turn on and function fine and sometimes it would not display anything at all on the screen.

The sound is fine when you power it on because it sounds like it is functioning so i have no doubts about that. Just the problem is you don't know when it will display anything on the screen when you power it on.

Im running it now after i tried to get it up and running and im now posting this issue and it's working fine.

Any ideas why it is doing this?

The battery is new, but i was thinking maybe i should clean the hard drive out after backing any important data and maybe formatting the drive then see how it goes. But maybe this is not needed.

Im not too sure yet.

If the bios screen doesn't even come up, then it's probably not a hard drive related issue, does anything come on screen at all or does it stay purely black?

That particular series (if it has the Nvidia chipset) had some overheating issues which resulted in graphics chip failure. But there are a few other possibilities to rule out.

Does the image come on screen if you move the screen, or open and close the screen again etc?

It ain't a overheating problem.

It is just a random problem. Sometimes it does not show anything on screen when turned on and sometimes it works fine.

I believe everything works but it is strange to why this happens.

When turning the laptop on... If nothing is displayed then all you see is black screen whilst at the same time you can hear the laptop running.

So then you have to turn it off by holding power button and trying your luck again by turning it on to see if it will work.

I had to try this cycle about 3 or 4 times and finally it showed up and was fine. Now someone else is using the laptop and its still working fine now.

It displays everything when it works fine... You can go into bios by pressing whichever button whenever needed when its on.

It is not the laptop that I wrote about in my system specs. It is another laptop.

It says brought long time ago with Windows 7 officially on it. Never had any problems like this before.

Also there is no overclocking going on on this laptop because it's not really made for gaming etc.

It is just used for general web browsing etc so it is not overclocked.

There is no anti virus on there and never had any issues without this.

Im not too sure what you mean by what toolbars has it got on FF.

Thanks to all the replies by the way.

I didn't mean it was overheating at that particular moment, I was suggesting it could have overheated in the past a few times which has caused a problem now

Have you tried plugging the laptop into an external monitor?

It's never overheated from what i have seen although it's possible, but i don't think it ever has.

No i have not tried to plug it to an external monitor when nothing came up on the laptops screen.

sfc

please run sfc /scannow, from admin command mode
note the space between c /

As you do not run an AV, i RECOMMEND you get one.
In the mean time please download and run Malwarebytes free
uncheck the Pro trial, and in the scanning settings enable rootkit detection.
