Pc wont start with 4gm ram

    Hello everyone,

I have windows 7 64 bit running, but when i try to upgrade my ram from 2gb to 4gb my PC wont start at all and i have to take 2gb out and restartt to get it working again.

I have already tryed several things:

It is not the Ram as my pc will run if i take the old ram out and put the new ram in on its own.
I have made sure i am pushing the ram all the way down and clipping it in when i insert it.
I have checked the specs of my processor and it is 64-bit.

    Here are my PC specs:

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8300 @ 2.83GHz
    Memory: 2046MB RAM
    Hard drive: 1.3TB total
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio
Operating system: Windows 7 Home premium 64bit
    Motherboard: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD MS-7392 1.0

Check the specs of each kit as Everlong18 mentioned.

If they don't match, timings, MHZ and voltage, they won't work together.

It's best to match the RAM exactly.

I have just tryed my pc with 3gb ram and it is working perfectly. That is 3x1gb ram, 2 gb of the new ram and 1 gb of the old ram.

Edit: From what i can tell:

My old ram is Vdata DDR2 @ 800Mhz
My new ram is Corsair DDR2 @ 800Mhz

Sounds like a bad RAM card.

Did you try to switch the old RAM cards?

Try this SIW - System Information for Windows.

It will give you all the information on your RAM, and everything else.

Check the timings and voltages for the new vs old.

Sorry but thats not entirely correct. What matters with ram is manufacturer. Timings could cause the issue but not likely and mhz doesnt matter because your mobo will set to the defualt of 800mhz. The issue i would say is that you dont have the sticks in the right channel. There are 4 ram slots typically color coded. Make sure that you match the ram of the same GB amount to the ram slots. For instance if your mobo ram slots in the color order of black-blue-black-blue and lets say you have 2x1GB sticks and 2x2GB sticks then you would put the 2x2GB sticks in the black slots and the 2x1GB sticks in the blue slots, other wise your mobo will not boot or not get very far in loading your OS.

Refer to the picture below if you need help (click on the link). Hope it fixes the problem -Sincerely your A+ Cert Helper.

    xineo,
The manufacturer is not nearly as important as the timings, MHz and voltage required.
Many people mix manufacturers but you will have trouble if you mix timings and speed - MHz.

Matched RAM with all the above is the best advice.

Ensuring the different RAM cards are in the correct slot is also important.

Boot with one stick at a time to see if you have a dead stick... which it sounds like you might if you can boot with 3 of your 4 sticks...
