Unrecognized USB Driver from Bad Cable.

I plugged in the cable to my camera, with camera still off, like I have done a thousand times. Windows decided to install some USB driver. It didn't work. The cable was bad, system would not recognize the camera.

Now, the system constantly pops up the message "Unrecognized USB device".
I have tried uninstalling. Windows constantly tries to reinstall. How can MS be so stupid as to try re-installing a device that I just uninstalled?

I have tried disabling. Windows doesn't care.

How can I get this "driver" really uninstalled?

On device connect, there's a h/w handshake and data exchange between the USB controller and the device (your camera) where by the camera sends the USB controller identifying information (which in turn is given to Windows). If Windows can't receive the info, it's an "Unrecognized device". In the Plug and play sequence, a device has to first be recognized before Windows has the data it needs to do a driver search. So I think you're seeing Windows complaining it can't receive ID info.

So next question is why the heck isn't your device recognized?!#@ Device recognition is handled between the controller and the device (your camera)

The cable is the one that came with the camera. I have used the cable and camera on this computer many times for over a year. Now the cable has gone bad.

I have been using the cable and camera repeatedly in the exact same USB port on the computer.


The question is, how do I get this message to stop popping up?

Camera and computer are up to date.

Never needed to in the past.

Port is ok. I plug in other hardware into this port. They work fine.
