I always do a Cleanup and scan with my security programs before doing any kind of backup, imaging, cloning.

No sense in backing up garbage or infections.

LaybackBear, LadyF, yes, correct! My real time protection shields are ON during normal operations as well as during Macrium Reflect's on-the-fly-VSS backups.
